Lars Stannard is a junoir at SAHS and is a photographer for the Pony Express. He is a varstiy skier and enjoys art, reading, and computers. He plays percussion in band and wants to travel overseas sometime in his life.

Having only 13 members and not much funding, much of their equipment is worn. Throughout the year, they stress how important support from the community is in order to face this adversity. “It’d be great if we got support, we could upgrade a few of the things on the boats like parts that are overused,” said freshman Brian Olson.

Along with the beautiful days on the river, team members enjoy themselves and form new relationships without having to give up other commitments. We practice two days a week, said Senior Summer Thompson It is not a huge time commitment, but even if it was I would still do it because I have so much fun.

Awareness in the community is also a goal for the sailing team. Our biggest goal is to get support of from the school, said Thompson, with that we would be able to expand, and give others a chance to experience this great opportunity.

School Counselor Heather Trettel takes Dan Ralstons place as a Black Pony Center Counselor. Trettel explained, I came back to work here, and I felt like I had left on a Friday and came back on a Monday.

Senior Brooke Thingvold hosted 16- year-old Marie Chavrier this summer. Chavrier was also the same girl that hosted her in France for three weeks in August of 2013. Brooke and Marie are one example of the many friendships that form between students of different ethnicities. These programs benefit students and adults alike and teach the culture and traditions to both countries involved.
