The Stillwater Football team season moved to spring to allow them to get higher rankings in state said by coaches and players.

Football is moving to spring and if this change will be beneficial for the Stillwater Football team this 2021 season and will they take this beneficial into seasons after that. They haven’t had a great few years with more losses than wins and hopefully with their more time to practice, they can make it higher in rankings for state or even win state this year.

“Over 2/3 of our starters last year were seniors so we don’t have a ton of players with much varsity experience coming back and it will definitely help our inexperienced guys by giving them more time to study and learn the plays. I think overall it will help us and give us time to get bigger and stronger”. junior Mason Wilson said.

Every year we lost great seniors in football. With those seniors gone, it would give a chance to the younger classes to experience the varsity grounds. We have some great players in the coming year that would make the team great and get higher in state.

“It’s an opportunity for other kids who are excited about stepping into the opportunity and so we’ve got we’ve got holes to fill but that happens every year and we are excited about the guys that have the opportunities”. head coach and History teacher Coach Beau LaBore explained.

Many of the players are feeling all the same way as their season gets moved to spring. They want to play in the fall like always on their friday nights, under the lights, with the crowd cheering. The season getting moved to spring will still have most of all those but some players were very sad once they found out they can’t play this fall.

“Trust me, we’d all rather much be out under those Friday night lights this fall”. Wilson explained

The Stillwater Football team has been having practices this fall for a few hours. Practicing this fall will help get them ready for their spring season coming up in the next few months. It will get them in shape for their season and get prepared

“A number of guys that have experience on the varsity level have a sophomore team that has had success.” LaBore explained. “I’m just going to take the opportunities as they come for us, which means we have a short practice session in the fall, and hopefully a long season in the spring”.

With having practices this fall, It’s going to benefit from it all. The Stillwater Ponies will come out this season with great new players on varsity with their well prepared players from practices in the fall.

“They’ve worked hard, lifted weights, ran, jumped a lot of those things, it really is a big commitment. So, the expectation and the hope is that it’ll turn out very well”. assistant coach and PE teacher Darrel Salmi said.

Some of the Coaches for the Stillwater football team have been there for a few years bringing the teams to winning games. The coaches are a huge part of the team for the players. They coaches have experience in other football teams that help the team.

“This is my 26th year coaching football here in Stillwater.” Said Salmi. “Third grade, flag football, 6,7,8 tackle football, high school football. Then, I played college football at St John’s University and my 20th year coaching 16th as a head coach, and 10th year as a head coach at Stillwater High School.” Labore explained.

“Now all we can do is take what we learned from the seniors and apply it to our own game to make ourselves better. I would love to play another game side by side with them, but now it’s time for the classes of 21’ and 22’ to show what we can do”.Wilson explained

Head Coach and Histroy Teacher Beau LaBore said “It’s an opportunity for other kids who are excited about stepping into the opportunity and so we’ve got we’ve got holes to fill but that happens every year and we are excited about the guys that have the opportunities”
