December 5, 2016

It is unbelievable that the presidential election came down to the two most disliked presidential candidates in history. Many people are starting to wonder how Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump came so far in the election to end up becoming the two people to representatives of Democratic and Republican parties.

With Trump and Clinton having the highest unfavorable rate in history, both of them had to have done something right during their campaigns. Each of the candidates had a history of admired acts and bad judgement calls, which affected them in this past election. Clinton’s deleted emails and Trump’s no-filtered comments and discrimination against races and religions have resulted in hatred towards both candidates.

About 47 percent of Trump voters did not want Hillary, which is why they voted for him, and 46 percent of Hillary voters were with her because they did not want to see Trump in the White House. Polls and studies show that Trump had a 63 percent unfavorable rating while Hillary had a 56 percent unfavorable rating. 56.9 percent of eligible voters did not vote this past election.

Junior Victoria Ly said, “Both candidates made it extremely difficult for people to decide on who they will vote for. People either had to choose if they wanted a liar or a sociopath to become our next president.”

As a result of the election, some people seem to have more discriminatory views then those that value integrity. That being said, the electoral college decided to choose a candidate that based his campaign on discrimination against races and religions because of polls in their respective states.

Along the way of each of the candidates campaign trail, there were a lot of disturbing things said by both parties that caused people to wonder who is the more fit candidate. Trump appealed more to the white men, which made people from other races feel intimidated. Hillary’s deleted emails caused people to not trust her by jeopardizing classified information about this county.

Out of all the candidates that ran for presidency, Trump and Clinton were the most well-known, which helped them receive more media coverage. Clinton being a former first lady and the first female presidential candidate made her more appealing to the Democratic party as well has the females in this country.

Junior Austin Kogler said, “It seemed that people thought Hillary had it in the bag so they didn’t really think that voting would have been such a important thing. But with the more people that decided not to vote, the worse the turnout looked for Hillary.”

This past election was not based upon hope and change for our future in the county like Obama said eight years ago. It was based upon fear and and power. Both the candidates attacked each other’s weaknesses and inabilities.

People see more of a change with Trump then they could see with Hillary. There seemed to be a lot of dissatisfied people in the U.S., which made them decide to vote for Trump because he is not the average politician, he is more of a business man.
