U.S. should safely admit Syrian refugees

October 10, 2016

The refugees from Syria, after the fall of the Syrian government, have been scattered worldwide looking for countries to settle in. The common concern around the world is that some members of ISIS are hiding among the refugees and possibly conspiring to commit terrorist attacks on the host countries that allow these refugees in.

In the United States alone, of the 784,000 refugees worldwide allowed within our borders since 2001, only 3 have been prosecuted for planning to commit a terroristic attack, which is roughly .0003 percent. Many of these Syrian refugees are settling in European countries as well, which is causing major problems in each of these countries with the extensive crowding caused by this large influx of Syrian people. However these people are not dangerous, they cannot be judged by a few radicals of the group.

“The governments in these countries are spending a lot of money helping the refugees, which is putting a large strain on their government,” senior Joe Weber said.

Mostly countries in Europe are where most of the refugees go, and as a result of that, they help with the funding for this crisis, giving billions of dollars to help solve this pressing issue. In total, the amount of money given from the world equals around $17 billion.

At first, they were too scared of the press being too tough on them in the debates. Now they are scared of three year old orphans. That doesn’t seem so tough to me.

— President Barack Obama

In the world there are around 13.5 million refugees from Syria, only 4.8 million refugees reside outside of Syria, while the rest are stuck within the borders. These refugees are then dispersed world wide, the largest amount going to the nearby country of Turkey, nearly 2.7 million currently. The countries closest to Syria have accepted the most refugees, however many European countries such as Germany and France have accepted many refugees.

According to the Washington Post, “30,000 refugees will be welcomed over the next two years. Our country has the duty to respect this commitment,” President Holland of France said.

France, even though they have received the worst of the terrorist attacks in recent years, is still honoring their commitment to bringing in more refugees. Unlike the United States, which turn their back on the refugees because they fear that they are dangerous and pose a threat to American citizens. The refugees are escaping war and corrupted governments and going through a very stressful process to be denied into a country with plenty of land and resources for these people, and is very unethical to be denying these people refuge, when they are in desperate need of it.

According to the Huffington Post, “At first, they were too scared of the press being too tough on them in the debates. Now they are scared of three year old orphans. That doesn’t seem so tough to me,” President Barack Obama said.

Syrian Refugees are not dangerous. When Republicans do not want to admit Syrians into our country because they aren’t Christian, goes against our Constitution and many American values. Freedom of religion is a part of the First Amendment in the Constitution, and to go against those beliefs, oppose what America stands for which is Life, Liberty (as in freedom) and the Pursuit of happiness.

The Syrian Refugee crisis is a tragedy, and is in desperate need of the worlds help, especially the United States. These people are not dangerous, mostly because they consist of ineligible soldiers, and orphaned babies. The prejudice in our country that Muslims are dangerous goes against our core beliefs as a country and needs to be eradicated as an acceptable practice.

Good article Max. I agreed with how you attacked the irrational fear some people have of refugees with facts and statistics.
