Not only is there Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr, but there is now a new, more innovative social media app. Pheed launched for iPhone and Apple products in late 2012 but has recently launched for Android with great reviews. It’s a social media app that enables users to create, inspire and share text, photos, videos, audio tracks, voice-notes and live broadcasts.

Pheed combines the aspects of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr, but attempts to provide more ways to share. Rather than just posting pictures and videos and commenting on those pictures and videos, Pheed lets you also share live broadcasts and audio tracks. It reached number one on the app store in Sept.

The app has gotten great reviews but some think that it’s nothing new on the social media market.

“It’s new, but nothing different compared to the other social media websites,” said senior Paige Becker.

Since the launch of the app, it has grown rapidly in the app store because of the youth’s obsession with Pheed.

Founder O.D. Kobo explained “It’s a great indication of how powerful the youth sector can be in the fueling in the startup’s growth.”

Users of the app can put up a paywall in which they could charge $1.99 to $34.99 per view, or $1.99 to $34.99 per month and split the proceeds with Pheed.

“The paywall detracts from the actual intentions of the site,” said senior Davis Gray. “Instead of going on the app and browsing around, you have to worrying about spending money.”

With the youth fueling a new app, there is a new social media website on the market, and it provides a little bit of everything for everyone.
