Varsity and Friends provides heartwarming entertainment

The Varsity and Friends orchestra concert was a concert that allowed elementary kids to not only watch the high school’s Varsity Orchestra play, but also to play alongside them. This concert gave the SAHS elementary school district kids, who are in orchestra, the opportunity to see what orchestra is like on the high school level.

The Varsity and Friends concert was held on March 3, in the high school’s auditorium and admission was free. Everyone was welcome to come and watch the elementary orchestra players play along side Varsity Orchestra.

This concert was held to give the elementary school kids the opportunity to play along side the Varsity Orchestra and to show them what orchestra would be like in high school. It also gave the kids a chance to experience what it is like to play in the high school’s auditorium.

Junior Cortney Stedman, member of Varsity Orchestra said, “The concert is about inspiring the elementary kids to continue to participate in orchestra.” Junior Mitch Carlson said, “The concert is about having younger kids play with high school students in order to inspire elementary kids to keep playing, they can get an idea about what orchestra is like at the high school so they can decide whether or not to continue playing.”

The Varsity and Friends orchestra concert was a concert that allowed elementary kids to not only watch the high school’s Varsity Orchestra play, but also to play alongside them.

While the varsity members were preparing to play their pieces for the elementary kids, the kids were preparing to play their pieces with the varsity orchestra.

“We prepared music that we have had since the beginning of the semester, and we also practiced the elementary music for a few because we did not need very much time for their music,” said Carlson. Junior Emma Fischer said, “I enjoyed the concert because it was a different experience and there was not a lot of pressure, especially compared to our other performances.”

This concert was held to give kids a perspective on how the Varsity Orchestra works in the high school, and how it’s going to be different than how the elementary orchestra works, and hopefully inspire them to keep playing orchestra.

Carlson said, “I really enjoyed the concert because we were able to meet with energetic younger kids, and we were able to show them what kinds of things we get to do.”
