Trivia Crack latest teenage addiction

Ask someone that is using their phone in class what they are doing, and they will most likely say that they are playing a new game called Trivia Crack. This trivia game has become something like an addiction to many people.

This game is currently number one on the iTunes free app charts. No one needs to be told that this app is popular. Just looking around at school is enough. People play Trivia Crack at school, in the cafeteria, in class, in the bathroom, practically anywhere. This app is a game that people can play through Facebook or an email address. Each player takes turns answering randomized trivia questions. There are six different trivia categories (entertainment, sports, art, history, science, and geography).

Trivia Crack has become popular with teens.”It’s just a really fun game to play with your friends,” said sophomore Mary Burchill, “and when you win it’s rewarding. You get bragging rights.”

Each player takes turns to earn “characters”. Most people have one category that they are really good at and they hope that the spinner will land on that category every time. People play for the chance of getting a question that they will be good at and know the answer to. People like to be right and prove to others in a friendly, competitive game that they know more. When one player gives a wrong answer, then it is the next player’s turn. The first person to 6 characters, wins. The popularity of this game has skyrocketed recently.

Senior Alaina Friedrich said, “I’m a sucker for trying to prove that I know more random knowledge than other people, so this game is a perfect opportunity for me to make use of that.”

The reason this game is so popular is because it is easy and anyone can play. The friendly competition also is a big factor in the game’s popularity. When someone loses a game, they are likely to ask for a rematch and play another game. This leads to the addiction that is Trivia Crack.

“It’s just a really fun game to play with your friends,” said sophomore Mary Burchill, “and when you win it’s rewarding. You get bragging rights.”

Trivia Crack has sparked some playful rivalries between friends. People want to prove that they are smarter and better than their friends.

“Winning is addicting,” added junior Danielle Glewwe.

This game sparked in popularity very rapidly and is already starting to being played less and less as time goes by. Chances are this game will not be popular for a very much longer. The only thing that is keeping people hooked is the competitiveness and interactiveness of the game. If it was a solo game, it would not be as popular.

“At first I would play whenever someone answered even if it meant during class,” said Burchill. “I’d sometimes ask teacher for answers. Now, it’s about daily that I’ll go on. It’s definitely toned down.”

Trivia Crack is so fun and easy to play and that is what makes it so enjoyable. Since there are a variety of questions and categories, it keeps people playing. Every time a notification pops up saying that a friend got a question wrong on Trivia Crack, there is an opportunity to beat them right then and there. Most people would take that attempt to beat their friend. This all leads to the addiction  that is known as the Trivia Crack Craze. But, like a lot of games, such as Flappy Bird, this app will also fade in popularity until the next one comes along to take its place.
