The Affordable Care Act signed by President Obama would help the citizens in need of healthcare, but Americans should not have to use their own money to pay for other citizens’ insurance plans.

Obamacare is a health insurance reform to provide affordable healthcare to people who do not have it, or cannot afford it. Obama signed an Affordable Care Act that contains many pages of reforms to the insurance industry in the U.S. There are about 44 million Americans without health insurance today.

Insurers have to make sure they attract as many sick people as healthy people if Obamacare takes effect.

“They must attract enough healthy people to pay for care of sicker patients and price their offerings to keep premiums low enough to be competitive, but high enough to be sustainable,” said reporters Thomas and Abelson of the New York Times.

Most Americans will have affordable health care available by 2014, but people who are not eligible still might not have health insurance. However, people that still aren’t eligible must first get back on their feet before becoming insured.

Alain Sherter from CBS News Moneywatch said, “The new law is geared to the millions of Americans who do not have access to health benefits through a job, cannot afford private insurance or who are ineligible for public coverage.”

Not everyone in the United States is eligible for the Obamacare Act. If a citizen is not eligible, it is a sign that they are already making enough money to afford health care.

“It does not apply to the vast majority of working adults, who already receive insurance through their employers, and people who are satisfied with their existing coverage may keep it. To qualify participants also must live in the United States have citizenship or legal residence,” said Sherter.

The Affordable Care Act has many pages of reforms, and most Americans and some politicians do not know everything it consists of.

“They only know that Obama wants it and since they hate him, they hate the law. As a result, they get out the checkbook to help fund a fight that they are already funding through taxes,” said Bob Cull from TEApublican.

The Affordable Care Act is one of the topics that caused the government shutdown this month. The shutdown was necessary for the United States to thoroughly discuss and come up with a plan for the nation rather than rushing into things that might not go as planned.

“Shutdown or no shutdown, we’re ready to go to start enrolling people tomorrow,” Sebelius told reporters. “We’re about to make some history, and I think some very positive history for lots of families in the country.”

The topic of Obamacare is something many take very seriously and is a topic that can be debated for hours. If Obamacare passes or not, there will still be much controversy between the supporters and the opponents. Obamacare is not necessary for citizens of the Unites States to pay tax money on other citizens health care.
