Beginning in 2006, Harvard Economics professor Roland Fryer Jr. conducted a study on the effects of monetary bribes on the academic achievement of American students. In roughly a year and a half, Fryer and a team of education experts spent $6.3 million on a program to study the way bribery affected students and to measure the improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Although scores improved slightly in some areas, the consensus among most psychologists and educators is that bribing students for improved academic achievement will only lead to short term success and long term failure.  Read

Now, more than ever, researchers have begun to see a correlation between violence expressed in the media and violence in reality, especially gun violence. Read

Religion can be a touchy subject to talk about, especially as it relates to school. Stillwater Area High School used to have a religion course a good number of years ago, but the course was dropped. Having a world religions course at the high school ought to be seriously reconsidered as a class because it would be beneficial to many students.  Read
