Allegiant disappoints fans

The Divergent Series has been a popular book and movie franchise for the past few years. The newest, Allegiant, is the third and final part of the saga. Although because of Hollywood trends of continuing on with sequels, this is only the second to last movie to be put out. Prior Divergent movies did decently well at the box office, but Allegiant has not been doing as well, and fans aren’t pleased.

In Allegiant,  Tris, played by Shailene Woodley, Four, Theo James, and the group of  divergents, Peter, played by Miles Teller, Christina played by Zoe Kravitz, and Caleb played by Ansel Elgor, finally make it over the wall that separates the post-apocalyptic city of  Chicago from the rest of the nation.

They are then quickly welcomed into another blocked off or walled city. The city has characteristics of futuristic modernism as well, and is the home of the weirdly named Bureau of Genetic Welfare. Here they learn the truth about their existence in Chicago as part of a grand experiment.

Many fans and critics have been saying the movie presents too much new information, that the film is not able to justify in the 121 minute running time. It is messy and some parts of the movie make you wonder if it ever went through an editor.

The acting downgraded as well, it is bluntly obvious that many of the actors do not seem too thrilled to be a part of the film. In the first Divergent, Shailene Woodley had given her all and stood out for her role as Tris, as well as in Insurgent, the second Divergent movie. She still did a decent job, but her acting was dull and not full of any emotion, she seemed to have something else on her mind the whole film.

Sophomore Blake Quickel has seen all the Divergent movies. “I would have to say this was the worst one of them all. It wasn’t bad but I wasn’t intrigued by it that much. At all really. It was disappointing,” Quickel said.

Also, added in this movie was Jeff Daniels, who played David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. Many fans think they wasted his great acting abilities, all he does in the movie is sit around in his fancy office.

When going out to see a movie, people want to see something exciting, intriguing or attention catching in some aspect. Allegiant was interesting in the beginning, but became more and more predictable every minute. It goes from being a so called drama, to almost a comedy by the way it folds out in the most obvious way.

Junior Paige Johnson, saw the movie in the theaters a few days after it was released. “I was excited to go see it. I have been reading the books since they came out, I really enjoyed those. I still enjoyed Allegiant, but it was very predictable and just not as interesting as I was hoping it would be. I also thought it was kind of corny, the graphics they added into this movie, such as when they show the plasma bubbles, were awful. You’d think for the technology we have in our generation it would be better but I guess not,” Johnson said.

All in all, the movie Allegiant has not been a hit at the box office. Predictable, corny and dull, the movie was not what many fans were expecting. On June 9th The Divergent Series: Ascendant will be hitting the theaters. Hopefully the next movie will do better than Allegiant did.
