You jump, I jump, Jack: ultimate thrill-seeking

Adrenaline junkies all over the world have been seeking adventures to scratch off their before I die checklist throughout most of history. Everyone has created a bucket list, with at least a  daring activity to complete before they expire.

So, what is it about that adrenaline rush that people have always been trying to satisfy? Why do so many individuals crave the stimulation of jumping out of an airplane or off the side of a cliff? A fundamental part of our beings seek excitement and exhilaration with eagerness and enthusiasm, some are just willing to go further than others to fulfill this urge.

Day after day, many people find themselves following the same routines, completing the same tasks over and over again, because in today’s society a chance for variety is rare.

“It makes you feel invincible.”

— Hailee Bonds

Lauren Lindahl (’16) said, “I yearn for adventure, along with many other people, because it is an excuse to break the monotony of everyday life. Its to prove a point of not falling into the mundane routines and to actually live.”

Perhaps its the thrill of braving a near-death experience or the conquering of our deepest fears, that have people signing their lives away to achieve the heart racing rush that takes your breath away and create the most breath-taking memories.

“It makes you feel invincible,” said Hailee Bonds (’15) who wishes to go bungee jumping and deep sea diving at some point in her life.

Most people have a bucket list, some avoid the more daring activities while others seek out the most dangerous. Humans strive to gratify a need to rebel against the common day and recreate their lives.

When asked why she craved adventures, Bonds said, “Life can be rather dull and to have adventures and excitement in life can rekinder the desire for spontaneity in your spirit.”

Skydiving, bungee jumping, and hang gliding are said to be some of the thrills one can experience in life. BASE jumping, zip lining, and volcano boarding have also become increasingly popular,  in recent years.

“I’ve always craved adrenaline rushes, every activity I love usually consists of something that’ll make my legs go weak,” said Cooper Hanson (’16), “I love to push myself, If I’m staring down a big jump on the ski slopes or getting ready to try something new, that rush of adrenaline is the most satisfactory thing for me.”

Whether its adrenaline rushes, with heart pounding moments that make your toes curl, or other life goals, aspirations or plans. Not enough time is set aside in our busy lives to reach personal fulfillment, therefore people need more time to really live and lead a satisfying life filled with all the memories you wish to create in your lifetime.

As Hanson said, “I have found that adventuring and taking advantage of trying new things is the best way to take baby steps toward completing your bucket lists.”
